Director and Writer Rob Williams, can be credited for attempting something entirely different in this drama. This is not just another gay movie, gay relationships have been thoroughly explored to produce a brilliant work. The cast comprises a terrific team - Chris Carlisle as Mac, Joel Harrison as Cameron, Gaetano Jones as Kevin, Derek Long as Cooper, Derek Meeker as Simon, Douglas Myers as Jason, Daniel Rhyder as Andre and Stephen Twardokus as Ace.

It is customary for the couple Simon and Jason together with Daddyish Cooper and his boy to spend a three-day weekend at a mountain cabin far from the hustle and bustle of city life. They wish for a slight change in their routine expedition this year with each having to bring an attractive partner along to the mountain getaway. Joining the group are a frisky former college roommate, a constantly naked yoga instructor, Jason’s uptight co-worker and a high-priced rent boy. The new parties definitely stir up the weekend. There’s lot of jealousy, tension and fight ensuing.

The story follows a young man (Terry, played by Danny Pino) who flies in to a rage on learning that his fiancee (June, played by Brittany Murphy) is about to check in at a hotel room with another man, (Julian played by Mike Vogel) who turns out to be his best friend. The plot is more than a triangular love story, it’s a mystery that surrounds the whole sequence of events. Unable to swallow the deceit, Terry decides that his friend must die. But it is not merely about finishing his friend off, there is something eerie throughout which makes it interesting to watch.

Directed by Alex Merkin and the casting done with care, there are good number of scenes offering tension.

Traitor could be a classic example of a quality thriller that’s no different from reality, This was co-written by Steve Martin and Jeffrey Nachmanoff who also directed the movie. He has done his job well giving clarity to a complex drama.

The story revolves around the protagonist, Samir Horn (Don Cheadle), a Muslim American of Sudanese origin who at a young age sees his father getting killed in a terrorist attack. Migrating to the States, he joins the military where he later is trapped in a terrorist network. Meanwhile FBI agent Roy Clayton played by Guy Pearce is assisted by Max Archer (Neal McDonough) in an investigation of a terrorist outfit in which Horn may or may not belong to.

The characters have been well defined and given the seriousness of the theme both Cheadle and Pearce are equally good in their roles. Their performances are further augmented by the powerful script of Jeffrey Nachmanoff giving the audience good background of the two main characters.

Directed by D. J. Caruso, this is undoubtedly a preposterous action thriller where by the time you get to know what’s happening, you would have stopped caring. Shia LaBeouf plays Jerry Shaw, a slacker who works at a copy store. On returning home from his brother’s funeral, he stops at the ATM and surprisingly finds that his normally empty bank account has now a staggering amount of $750,000. He draws as much money as possible and makes his way home while wondering about this new and absurd development. On reaching his shoddy apartment, he notices that it is no longer empty but is filled with weapons all around. He receives an anonymous call and the unknown voice at the other end gives him a warning that the FBI may get there any time and he just has seconds to leave the apartment. Jerry pays no attention to the call and soon he is arrested by the FBI and sent to jail.

He doesn’t spend much time in jail and soon finds himself acting according to the whims and fancies of the unknown voice. The unknown voice appears to have complete control over all technologies. Even the poor guy’s cellular connection is controlled by the anonymous voice. The mysterious voice gets Jerry to talk to his mom, Rachel and threatens that if she doesn’t co-operate, he would have her son killed. The movie continues as we try to make guesses about the mysterious voice’s plans and purpose of the mission. But the last bit is an annoying part when things turn real silly. Nevertheless, I suggest you watch it to try and figure out the much better movies that resemble this one.

The film then moves to a week earlier when the man named Max Payne (Mark Wahlberg) is determined to find the killer of his wife, Michelle and new born daughter. Angrily, Max asks Natasha to leave and on her way back while she's talking on the phone to a drug dealer, she gets killed mysteriously.

Max then carries on the investigation with Alex, who on making some discoveries concerning the crime is found dead in his apartment. Mona believes Max to be the perpetrator of the crime, Max convinces her that they are on the look out for someone else. The two then begin the investigation and the film takes all twists and turns and soon we come to realize that the wide open possibilities get narrowed down to something very ordinary. Nevertheless Max Payne can retain your attention.

Fool's Gold could be a good entertainer with it's tinge of comedy revolving around a couple Ben Finn (Matthew McConaughey) and Tess (Kate Hudson). There's the centuries old treasure lost in 1715, and Finn's obsession causes him to leave no stone unturned to locate the 40 chests of exotic treasure. And in his attempts to discover the treasure, Ben loses all he has including his dear wife whom he still loves. Just as Tess begins to move on with life working aboard a mega-yacht owned by billionaire Nigel Honeycutt (Donald Sutherland), Finn is presented with a good clue concerning the exact location of the treasure.

Almost sure, he can discover the treasure with the given information, he persuades Gemma, Nigel's daughter, to join him in the quest. In the meanwhile, Tess too develops interest in the treasure. But they are not the only ones, we have more people in the pursuit.

If plot is what you're looking for, there is a repository of incidents to gratify you. Andy Tennant, the director could be credited for his creative work in introducing diverse characters. You can find a rich old guy in an ascot (Donald Sutherland), the boat captain (Ray Winstone) and rap star (Kevin Hart) accompanied by an interesting gay couple and many others.

How about a stimulating sci-fi thriller that can energize us? My pick, this time is a 2003 movie, Pay Check, directed by John Woo and based on a novel written by Philip K. Dick in 1953. This offers you for consideration a mix of some action sequence and spell binding mystery. May be it lacks some of Dick’s ideas in the story, thought to be thought provoking, but it sure is fascinating.

The story revolves around Michael Jennings (played by Ben Affleck), the ‘Daredevil’ guy. By profession, he is known for his profound reverse engineering skills in software and hardware. He is engaged in an assignment where he not only steals a three dimensional computer display from another company but also works to enhance the design. Nevertheless, he is not a pioneer and there’s also another company that had already come up with the 3 D display capable of being viewed even without special glasses. The compensation is indeed a huge sum. The deal doesn’t complete there… his company also wants him to forego his memory as that could mean an exclusive right of the company over the product. In the meanwhile, he is tempted to take up a lucrative offer with a hefty pay check. His friend advises him to turn down the offer, but he is impelled to take it up largely because of the presence of a scientist, Uma Thurman (the Kill Bill lady) to whom he is attracted.

After three years, we find the task has been completed, memory erased, but instead of $90 million dollar he is made to accept an envelope enclosing some day- to- day items. He soon comes to realize that these very items are not just a necessity to save his life but are also essentials needed to save a civilization itself. Although the basic story is impelling, I can’t endorse that it’s free from flaws.

Like I told you, the film has its set of imperfections, one such unbelievable and odd thing is the sudden transformation of an ordinary guy to a super hero. Rest, I leave it to you to make your judgment.

The setting is San Francisco and FBI agent, Jack Crawford (Jason Statham) is seeking to avenge the death of his partner whose life has been ruthlessly taken away by the assassin Rogue (Jet LI). Three years have passed and the FBI agent has still not traced the killer until one day the 'man most wanted' is back to kindle a feud between Chinese mob leader Chang and Japanese Yakuza boss Shiro. Against this backdrop of a bloody war, the two have their personal battle too. The scenario presents very good opportunity for the blood thirsty Crawford to take revenge. He gets his professional team to assist him in the expedition. Some fight sequence and gun battles are real thrilling moments for the audience.

For action geeks, one disappointment could be that the two actors Statham and Li have no meaningful screen time with each other. Nevertheless, the movie is good by all odds. The action choreography is good but nothing more than that. Apparently, Corey Yuan who has had experience working with the two has had a clear cut idea of what each actor should do. On the whole, it is a decent action film

'The Brave One' directed by Neil Jordan has teamed with cinematographer Philippe Rousselot to render a sumptuous and edgy film. Watch the movie and you'll be left to ponder over lot of aspects like - is it possible to recover what is lost especially that which has been ruthlessly taken away from us? Is it easier to live with pain than to avenge in order to try and ease the pain?

Who wouldn't want to watch an action flick starring Rock. I'm having 'The Rundown” put up for you.

Under Peter Berg's direction, Rock with his fairly good acting virtuosity, plays a bounty hunter. What is surprising is, even when he's not really engaged in any action stuff, he is entertaining to watch. After watching this movie, you'll come to know that Rock isn't just capable of action but can also try his hand at Drama and comedy.

image

The film opens with Beck (Rock) agreeing to take up one final task of tracking down his boss's son (Travis) who is off to the Brazilian jungle. But Travis isn't eager to return, having discovered a golden idol that has been hidden from mankind for centuries. And the secret treasure is also the target of Hatcher (Christopher Walken) who owns a gold mine in the area. Beck gets to meet the unhinged ruler, Hatcher who employs local labor as slaves to work on his gold mines. Hatcher's reign is so rigorous that it goes to the extent of him building a fence around the city to help himself have a close eye on the laborers. Mariana (Rosario Dawson) is another lass who's behind the valuable idol. She owns a bar in the land and has a secret of her own.

Beck is successful in his attempt to get back his unwilling companion, Travis back into custody. But could do so only after showing Hatcher and his goons how bad things could turn out for them when they take him on. Hatcher becomes more determined to go after the two especially because he gets defeated by Beck. And the story continues with some funny sights of Beck being tossed about into the trees in a fighting sequence as well as his fall along the mountain. His experience with some crude looking monkeys is also a treat to the audience. But worst of all, he has to cope with Travis, who reluctantly accompanies him and thwarts the progress made by Beck

The rest, I leave it to your judgement. Get ready now for an action cum comedy.

Wasn't that rogue a real sweetheart? (I'd prefer to call him a sweetheart, as the movie was based on the true story of a monster croc, named 'Sweetheart' which was believed to capture about 15 boats during the 70s and cause great havoc)

For a change, let's watch a technically superb action film (not the latest one though)- “ The Bourne Ultimatum.”You'll have to spare just one hour and 51 minutes and you'll have a treat of a perfect 'Bourne' sequel, where Paul Greengrass has employed actual stunt team instead of the artificial CGI which other directors stage endlessly.

Our young hero Jason Bourne's ( Matt Damon ) trying to discover his hidden past is the central theme of the story. The film picks up about 10 minutes after ” The Bourne Supremacy” ends, which was also equally phenomenal. While the amnesiac assassin is hunting for his true identity, he has to take much effort to hide himself from the cops and look for medical supplies to treat his wounds that he has sustained at the end of 2004's "The Bourne Supremacy."

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE-NPlNW0EtWZh8RqM93KzaX1cWtpi_V6QTy0bIRWOXYH1gTyYR6F8WFuLdZs5R50UgwVVK9WD4ev5qp79GKhfD5sFYzP2Or_IjV9Mh_3cLN_1FaMXn9-d2UovMreyLY6iNJcs12gAVpGn/s400/f9_d__0_TheBourneUltimatum.jpg

He then finds that a British Journalist by the name Paddy Considine has researched the CIA Black ops division that is believed to have given Bourne the deadly identity. His name even figures in one of the articles of the reporter.

Bourne then moves to London hoping he would learn something of how he was transformed to a killer device by the CIA. But the reporter finds favor in the eyes of the CIA and the latest head of black ops, Noah Vosen (David Strathairn), sends a hit team to London.

Among other elements, the key ones include a car chase in New York's heavy traffic and a rooftop chase set in Tangiers. They are simply awesome. The movie has an amazing plot and action although no compromise has been made on the setting to render it less attractive. It is on par with the earlier sequels. The ending too is perfect suggesting there could not have been a better one. Although not a good idea of continuing ' The Bourne' series, chances of adding one or few more sequels still remain.

Hi, baby hi! This time, it's going to be crocodile for the taking.

Greg Mclean's sophomore effort to give the audience another terrifying tour to the Aussie outback location has definitely paid off. If you are talking about crocodile or any monster movies, then Rogue is the best of its kind and a perfect delight. It is a simple horror entertainment movie that lacks gore, stupidity or any kind of blasting violence and the monster crocodile does not strike the chord of primordial dread. But it certainly has its very thrilling side and if you want to enjoy being scared, then this one would serve a treat to you.

http://www.reelholes.com/Portals/0/Dan/rogue.jpg

Pete (Michael Vartan), a writer by profession, sets out to Northern Australia in a scenic river cruise tour, his latest assignment being writing on restaurants for his travel magazine. Along with him in the boat are a group of tourists whose travel guide for the day is Captain Kate (Radha Mitchell). As they all enjoy spotting crocodiles and the beautiful scenery, suddenly one of the tourists happen to spy a flare in a distance. The guide quickly takes the boat out of routine into the wild to find out if anyone's in trouble. But, in no time do they realize they have stepped into a territory of a dangerous crocodile which within seconds sinks the boat and forces the group into a tiny island where they have to deal with itself as well as the high tide.

I particularly like this movie and would want to watch it again just to savor Greg Mclean's expert craftsmanship that has brought out the essential characteristics of a crocodile. The croc's unique ability to remain under water for an hour without making a single bubble or ripple and it's acute senses that register every splash in the water are two among the many remarkable features portrayed in the movie.

Go on and enjoy!

Had an overdose of lions? Here's an interesting story told about the abduction of a young girl with a thought provoking ending that will make you ponder over for a long time after the movie is over. Director Ben Affleck has done an exceptionally good job through extracting superb performance from the cast, particularly the protagonist . Based on a novel, authored by Dennis Lehane, 'Gone Baby Gone' follows the private detective Patrick Kenzie (Casey Affleck) in his quest to solve the mystery of a missing young girl.

image

The aunt and uncle of Amanda McCready, the young girl hire Patrick Kenzie and Angie Genarro (Michelle Monaghan) to find the 4 year old. You can't expect the mother of the child, Helen (Amy Ryan), to elicit sympathy as she is too occupied with her drugs and alcohol. Patrick and Angie who are also in a relationship, seek assistance from Jack Doyle (Morgan Freeman), the captain of the Crimes Against Children Department to track down the culprit. The police partners, Remy Bressant (Ed Harris) and Nick Pool (John Ashton) half heartedly concede to their superior's request and offer all what they could do to crack down the case. Very soon, Patrick Kenzie and Angie Genarro realise that they cannot rely on those close to the investigation to reveal the whole story surrounding the abduction of the little girl and the rest, you can watch for yourself.

Considering the lack of popularity Ben Affleck has earned through his acting abilities, not many would have expected such a far more accomplished piece of work from him, albeit his poor visual sense. All the attention was given to the cast overlooking the sets and it was quite evident that the amount spent on extras for bars and street scenes were minimal.

If Ben Affleck continued the good work in his future endeavours, you could expect another Client Eastwood who directed 'Mystic Rivers' with a similar theme also written by Dennis Lehane.

With a runtime of 90 minutes under the direction of Peter Travis, the story is told from different perspectives. The film clicks as a result of the efforts of the director and first-time screen writer Barry L. Levy who have used flashbacks to reveal more details surrounding the attempt of the president’s assassination who had been in Spain on a global summit for terrorism at the time.

As the President is about to address an audience, he is shot twice; this is followed by a small explosion and then a massive blast. Immediately quick action is taken by Agents Barnes (Dennis Quaid), Taylor (Matthew Fox), and Holden (Richard T. Jones) to find the culprits in the midst of all disorder that has emanated.

This is a sequel to the one released in 2005. But this time Uwe Boll is not the director. The duo Michael Roesch and Peter Scheerer have worn the two hats of writer and director. Edward Carnby teams up with a group of witch hunters in search of the dangerous witch Elisabeth Dexter. The movie could have been a lot better than it is. Michael Pare and Danny Trejo have been wasted in their small roles. I have mixed feelings about the movie and doubt if horror fans would find this as one generating the needed chills and thrills. Anyway watch it and send in your feedback.

Some beautiful scenes from Thailand accompanied by painfully bad, gory action stuff gives this movie a distinctive zing. Action flick fans might find the action sequences stunning. Nevertheless, it is not free from some shoddy qualities, the most prominent one being it’s simply awful to look at. This is a re-make of a 1999 film directed by Oxide Pang Chun and Danny Pang who had also directed the earlier film with the same title.

The final assignment of Joe, an international hit man which involves four kills before his retirement is to be completed in Bangkok. As he works through the assignment, he gets help from Kong, a local street kid. Joe adheres to some simple codes and by the third hit, he discovers that he is breaking his four rules, is emotionally involved with a deaf-mute pharmacist (Charlie Young), leaves behind traces and is completely out of focus. While executing the third target, he gets noticed by some shocked onlookers.

And by the time, he goes in for the fourth target, he doubts that he is seen and escapes from the panicking crowd. He can now leave the country unharmed or rescue Kong. He decides to save Kong. He goes to the gang head quarters, kills everybody and rescues Kong and the dancer. The only person left is the gang leader Surat whom Joe forces into the back seat of the car while he gets into the car himself. The cops arrive right in time and this time Joe has no other alternative than to kill himself along with Surat.

Blood and chocolate could serve a likely treat for action and thriller fans although there isn’t anything significant and new offered in this werewolf story.

The story involves a pack of werewolves who have successfully established their reign in Bucharest for 5,000 years. But suddenly the pack begins to feel vulnerable when one of them interrogates their traditions which has been followed for centuries. Destiny brings Vivian (Agnes Bruckner) who had been orphaned at a very young age, to the pack. The horrifying leader of the pack Gabriel (Olivier Martinez) wants Vivian as his next wife but the latter is in love with a man, (Olivier Martinez), a graphic artist who has come to the city to accomplish a research that would help him in his study. Gabriel discovers their love affair and pursues the werewolf and the human. The two are on the run for a while until they are forced to face the pack in a confrontation.

Gore and violence are limited in the movie which is compensated by the location in Romania astoundingly presenting the air of mystery in the movie. The German director Katja von Garnier’s direction has beautifully delved into a monster movie and transformed it to romantic flick. But the fact remains there isn’t any major advances in this werewolf story considering the present time.

The opening scene features a car race between Machine Gun Joe (Tyrese Gibson) and a famous masked driver known as Frankenstein (David Carradine), escorted by a female navigator. The race ends with Joe smashing Frankenstein's car with the latter presumably left to die or sustain severe injuries.

In the meanwhile, Jensen Ames (Jason Statham), though innocent, is convicted for his wife's murder. In prison, a sadistic warden called Hennessey (Joan Allen) coerces him to be the driver of Frankenstein's Ford Mustang. She tells him that prisoners who win five death races are entitled to be freed. But since in the case of Frankenstein who had already won four before his death, it would suffice if Ames won only one race. Ames is also threatened with a picture of his baby under foster care. Ames learns of Hennessey's personal gains she can acquire out of the race, nevertheless, the threats meted out force him to take part in the race.

Under the direction of Paul W. S. Anderson, the car sequences are simply great with the rivals trying to run each other off the course. Machine cannons, oil slicks and ultra violence – there's plenty of them in the movie.

While you can watch the movie to enjoy the endless car stunts staged, it's loud and chaotic that could be tedious to some.

Starring Nicolas Cage as the father of a kid, this action-thriller seems to overcome the inadequacies of this Director Alex Proyas’ earlier film in 1998, ‘Dark City.’ ‘Knowing’ is somewhat different by reason of the fact that it tries to give interpretations to codes discovered by the son of a professor.

In 1958, an elementary school proposes to collect some drawings from the children to be stored in a time capsule. All the children are busy sketching while one little mysterious girl writes down numbers arbitrarily in a row. Fifty years later, the professor’s son gets hold of this inscrutable message and challenges his dad to decipher it. On trying to figure out the interpretation, the professor comes off with some frightful predictions that is expected to cause destruction on a global scale.

Kirk Jones has tried to give something entirely different for his action fans, the dialogue is completely in the form of rap. So it’s quite natural that only an audience who fancy rap music and ‘gangster movies’ would appreciate it.

The film begins with the protagonist, Kirk wanting very much to quit street life. There’s a crime fight going on where the opponents are gunned down, Kirk is caught in the crossfire and is in the midst of bloodshed. As you see, it is a simple premise but a novel presentation which has not so far been attempted by anyone.

The makers of Watchmen have done a worthwhile job through the adaptation of the critically acclaimed novel which in people’s opinion was considered ‘impossible to be made into a film.’ This is certainly the one that would gratify the audience’s appetite for a modish action film with breath taking visual effects. Riddled with violence and sex, you would agree that this is not for children.

The plot focuses on a group of masked and costumed vigilantes called Watchmen investigating the death of The Comedian, who eventually discover that someone is attempting to wipe out the Watchmen. Driven to uncover the truth behind The Comedian’s murder, Rorschach gets his former team, who have now retired, to delve into the mystery surrounding the death. In the process, they discover horrifying truths including the Russians having a nuclear war with the Americans.

Snyder and writers David Hayter and Alex Tse have accomplished a complex task of living up to the expectations of Watchmen fans while crafting a comprehensible movie, eliminating substantial parts of the novel, for those who haven’t read the Watchmen. Enjoy it.
